Interface Converter RS-232/RS422, RS-232/RS-485

From Phoneix Contacts, the DIN-Rail mounted PSM-ME-RS232/RS485-P Interface converter is designed to convert RS-232 interface signals bi-directionally to the RS-485 and RS-422 standard. The robust dual-channel converter is a category 3 device designed for installation in zone 2 potentially explosive areas. It meets the requirements of EN 60079-0:2012+A11:2013 and EN 60079-15:2010.

Featuring diagnostic and status indicator LEDs for supply voltage and RS232 data reception and transmission. The PSM-ME-RS232/RS485-P Interface converter offers the user the flexibility to meet the many demands of today’s industrial applications.

Programming

RS-422/RS485 standards to create fast interference-safe point-to-point connections between participants in industrial applications
For programming and parameterization connections, e.g. between PC and S5 PLC controls or drive regulators with RS-422/RS-485 interfaces

Application Examples

RS-232 to RS-485

The RS-485 standard is employed where more than two devices need to communicate with each other. By converting the RS-232 point-to-point interface to the bus-capable RS-485 standard, up to 32 devices may be networked via a 2-wire cable (semi-duplex) or 4-wire cable (full-duplex).

· Programming/parameterization connection
· In networking RS-232 devices, the software must ensure devie addressability

RS-232 to RS-422

The RS-422 interface is an interface for point-to-point connections.

Possible applications:
· Interface adaptation to RS-422 devices
· Point-to-point connections of up to 1200 m; for range increase and interference-free transmission of RS-232 signals
