Ball splines are commonly used across many industrial applications. They are used in areas such as automation and packaging, medical, robotics, transportation and oil and gas exploration and utilise the linear recirculating motion of the ball element.
The linear motion of the balls in the ball spline mean they can be used where heavy loads need to be sustained and where the transfer of torque needs to be smooth and reliable as well as friction free. Ball splines also offer high reliability and predictable life expectancy.
Ball spline shafts have raceway grooves along the length of the shaft and the circuits of the balls are contained within the spline nut. This prevents the spline nut from rotating, which enables precise high torque transmission, as well as positioning accuracy. High speed performance is achieved due to the compact outer cylinder design which all support high load capacity.
