Fluke Fibre Tester, 1500 Tests Battery Life, 1.5km Operation Test Distance - FQM-100-M

This Fibre tester is a battery-powered handheld instrument designed to locate high-loss events and measure link distance on multi-mode Fibre using an 850 nm test wavelength. It operates simply with a single Test control and an SC connector, displays numeric loss and distance results within seconds, and checks for Active optical signals before testing. The unit is rugged, uses AA cells and is suitable for field use across typical outdoor temperature ranges.

Features and Benefits:

• Detects reflective incidents to identify high-reflectance faults
• Shows numeric loss and distance for Rapid troubleshooting
• Live Fibre detection prevents testing on Active lines
• Fast testing speed reduces downtime with 6 s typical test time
• Long battery life enables around 1,500 tests from two AA cells

Applications

• Used for locating breaks and poor connections in multi-mode runs
• Suitable for verifying links up to 1.5 km in length
• Ideal for pre-deployment checks of multi-mode patch panels
• Can be used for identifying reflectance-caused bit-error sources
• Employed where VFLs cannot reach or where jacketed cables run

What connector type does it accept by default?

The unit uses a removable SC adapter as the standard bulkhead.

How is distance accuracy affected during reflective event location?

Distance error combines ±1 m Plus 0.1% of the measured length for reflective incidents and can be refined by adjusting the index of refraction.

Which battery arrangement and operating temperature range apply?

It runs on two AA alkaline batteries and operates between 0 °C and 50 °C.

How does it behave when an optical signal is present on the fibre?

It detects live signals across the multi-mode range and displays an active-line indication before permitting a test.
